Summary

To participate as a member of the senior management team, with responsibility for overseeing the lending team and all lending programs including supervision of the lending team in the Manhattan and Queens offices, development of loan production goals, portfolio management, and compliance, reporting, loan policies and technological systems related to lending, design, and implementation of new/updated financial products, strategic planning, and outreach/ marketing.

May be designated as the Acting Executive Director for program decisions in the absence of the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Program Management

Leads all efforts related to lending including marketing, outreach, underwriting, structuring, closing, technical assistance, monitoring, problem-solving, servicing of loans, and if necessary, collections and workouts.

Management of the Lending Team

Supervises Lending Department staff in the Manhattan and Queens offices. This includes setting annual goals for staff, managing the pipeline and division of work among the staff, ensuring the quality of underwriting performed by loan officers, ensuring that all closing and monitoring policies and procedures are followed, and working with loan officers to address non-performing accounts.  Reviews loan officer interactions with clients and technical assistance hours for progress reports, with a minimum of 15 TA hours per week.

Interacts with consultants who provide support with strategic planning, coaching, underwriting, integrating new technology to streamline the lending process, and assistance with any other tasks that will enable Accompany Capital’s Loan Fund to achieve scale and efficiency.

Management of Lending Team

Provides leadership to the Lending team through communication, coaching, and staff development. Holds weekly supervisory meetings with staff and conducts performance appraisals for supervised staff according to Accompany Capital’s policies. Makes recommendations for hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions.

As needed, may handle underwriting/ senior loan officer responsibilities.

Portfolio Management and Compliance

Supervises the underwriting and serves as a member of the internal Loan Committee for loans under $25,000. Serves as liaison to the External Loan Committee, soliciting feedback on the lending process/ new lending opportunities and participating in quarterly meetings.

Conducts bi-weekly collection meetings with the Director of Portfolio Management and Compliance and loan staff to ensure compliance with Accompany Capital’s Policies and Procedures and maintain a healthy portfolio. Reviews reports on the status of the loan fund and actions to be taken with delinquent borrowers.

Strategic Planning/Policy Development and Implementation/Reporting

Participates in the strategic planning process. Works with the loan officers and other staff to implement a marketing plan and strategizes on how to meet the goals for loans, technical assistance, and workshops.

Designs and implements processes to ensure the lending process is conducted in an efficient, fair, and legally compliant manner, consistent with Accompany Capital’s mission, and is responsive to the market. This includes researching and implementing technological solutions, training staff, learning about CDFI best practices and solutions to lending challenges, and problem-solving with the Accompany Capital staff.

Works with outside IT consultants and Accompany Capital staff as needed to develop and implement new technology to improve /enhance the capability of the current software and to improve workflow.

Reports on the results of the lending program to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the Loan Committee.

Outreach and Marketing

Networks and conducts outreach in immigrant and refugee communities and organizations that work with these groups. Periodically assesses the marketing of Accompany Capital’s loan services and may recommend more effective ways to expand the client base.  Ensures that staff are taking advantage of loan referral services like SBA’s Lender Match, Connect to Capital, and other similar services.

The Chief Lending Officer will be present at community meetings, panel discussions, and industry conferences.  This person will engage in crucial conversations that shape the narrative of supporting immigrant entrepreneurs

 

 

Requirements

Min 7-10 years experience in small business lending, underwriting, and related technical processes including management and supervision; CDFI experience is a definite plus

•Knowledge of the microenterprise and small business loan process; ability to function as a hands-on and strategic thought partner and to work effectively as part of a team in a multicultural environment

•Considerable experience in credit adjudication, credit policy, risk mitigation, workout, and SBA SOP

•Community engagement and the ability to speak with organizations, chambers, elected officials, and business associations are crucial to selling the company and attracting clients

•Dedication to the mission, straightforward communication, passion, warmth, and an eagerness to learn; the ability to fit into the company’s culture and a focus on mentoring and coaching are essential
