Edward’s Candidate Statement

I’m Edward Whitfield, longest standing member of Seed Commons’ credit committee, Senior Loan Coach, and President of the board. After decades working directly with the marginalized borrowers our CDFI serves, I have learned how community finance can build pathways to true wealth and self-actualization for the most disadvantaged.

My work has focused on business development, cooperative enterprises, community-wide organizing, and now, climate forward investments. Our developing green projects combine both community benefit and direct greenhouse gas mitigation through things like solar mini-grids and energy efficient housing rehabilitation. I believe this long standing commitment to our communities and the technical experience with the non-extractive finance and green technologies will bring a beneficial skill set and perspective to OFN. That is why I am proud to be running for the board.
