Summary
The senior SG risk & compliance specialist is responsible for risk management and compliance across HOPE’s global network of savings group (SG) programs. HOPE International implements savings group ministries by equipping and supporting a network of church denominations and missionally aligned ministry organizations with a holistic, church-centered savings group ministry.
This role will help us serve our partners and saving group members well by focusing on internal and external compliance. The senior SG risk & compliance specialist will coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure that HOPE SG operations are managed within the global risk appetite and supervise annual SG risk assessments, prepare risk reports and reduction plans, as well as monitor regulatory compliance for SG operations.

Responsibilities
- Promote and contribute to the fulfillment of HOPE International’s mission and vision.
Enterprise Risk Management
- Ensure that SG operations are managed within global risk appetite levels.
- Develop a comprehensive risk management plan in response to key issues identified across the network.
- Keep all stakeholders aware of the risk and compliance governance structure and their roles in the implementation of the risk response strategies.
- Liaise with multiple departments (SG operations, finance, internal audit) to ensure timely and accurate reporting and analysis of country-level and global risks and trends to SG leadership.
- Facilitate annual or bi-annual program risk assessments, which involves identification of risks at a program level, reporting of risks, and supporting the development and implementation of risk management plans.
- Support SG programs in the management and closure of items in the risk action plan (RAP) and summarize/consolidate key risk items for the SG network.
- Report on SG network incidents and issues, conduct incident data analysis, and ensure timely resolution of incidents.
- Support the continuous development of HOPE International’s governance risk and compliance capabilities for savings groups through AuditBoard software package, including the implementation of Audit Board software for incident management and risk action planning.
- Identify, prioritize, and report on top risks to the senior director of savings group programs and the HOPE International board.
Internal Compliance
- Support and train savings group staff for compliance with internal policies such as incident management, fraud prevention and detection, risk mitigation and best practices.
- Periodically review existing policies and procedures for internal control gaps and propose more efficient, effective control mechanisms to protect HOPE International’s resources. Collaborate with finance to support effective policy and control design for savings group program operations.
- Systematically review vulnerabilities to internal and external fraud, assess areas for improvement, and identify specific initiatives to reduce fraud risk.
- Coordinate with internal audit to ensure proper reporting protocols and templates to identify root causes, avoid duplication of efforts, and implement corrective action.
- Liaise with SG programs to ensure timely and accurate reporting and analysis of country-level and global compliance levels for SG operations.
External Compliance (Regulatory)
- Support SG leadership in monitoring compliance with local regulatory requirements related to savings group program operations and response to program external audit findings.
- Lead training and compliance efforts to ensure global compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
- Liaise with SG programs and leadership to ensure timely and accurate reporting and analysis of country-level and global regulatory compliance levels for SG operations.
Requirements
- Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, economic development, or other related field
- 8+ years of professional experience in the areas of enterprise risk management, internal compliance, quality assurance, or external compliance, with preference for direct experience in an international development context
- Significant leadership and project management experience
- Experience with cross-cultural and cross-functional collaboration
- Strong analytical skills and report writing experience
- Self-motivated organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of multiple deadlines

- Expertise using MS Excel for modeling, data analysis, and reporting; familiarity with pivot tables, and advanced functions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented, self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Willing to travel up to 75 nights a year to the countries where HOPE operates
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $75,000/year USD. In addition, we offer generous health coverage, ample time off, retirement plan matching, professional development, and a Christ-centered mission and culture.
Note on salary: HOPE International determines starting salary ranges based on internal equity and the external market. Because we take a market-based approach to pay, this salary range is specific to US-based employment. Hires made in other countries will have a salary range based on local market factors and this range will be disclosed during the interview process.
