Operating as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) loan fund since 2020, our goal is to propel entrepreneurs and emerging enterprises to prosperity and economic liberation through the creation of middle-income and wealth-generating jobs and thriving businesses.
Summary
The Credit Analyst will be responsible for conducting due diligence and underwriting for approval loans made to support the development of emerging businesses and affordable housing. The CDFI Credit Analyst works closely with other members of the CDFI team to obtain approval of new loans and to prescreen potential loans for term sheet offers.
The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, be a team player, have a passion for financial justice and equity, and possess strong work ethic. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. It is required to have excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail. Prior experience in performing financial analysis is preferred. Applicant must have advanced proficiency with Windows, PC navigation and software including Excel and Word.
Responsibilities
- Client Relations: The Analyst position will have interaction with clients and internal team members to ensure open and pending applications progress.
- Loan Packaging: The Analyst will work with the CDFI outreach team and applicants in preparing required document lists for submitting a complete loan application.
- Due Diligence: The Analyst manages the collection and ensures quality of loan application documents, pictures, legal documents, and other materials from the borrower. They also utilize third party due diligence reports in loan origination system.
- Underwriting: The Analyst will use the application package and third-party reports to underwrite the loan request. Underwriting will include analysis of: financial proforma projections, budgets, repayment sources, market and regulatory conditions, appraisals, entitlement/land use assessments, environmental reports, plan and cost reviews, property conditions reports, requirements related to other capital sources and subsidies, borrower and guarantor financial statements, management and leadership of sponsor, and other analysis as appropriate to assess credit risk on a given transaction. The Analyst will compare the credit to USI CDFI’s standard credit guidelines to ensure conformance and identify exceptions if required. They may also support the CDFI team in assessing credit guidelines for special funding programs. During the underwriting the Analyst is encouraged to leverage data and products that improve access to capital to USI’s target client.
- Credit Approval: The Analyst will assist the CDFI team in preparing credit memos for loan approval request presentations to the internal and external Loan Committees. The Analyst will prepare exhibits (e.g. financial tables with analysis, for the loan approval package and work to present the credit approval requests.
- Customer Service: The Analyst will maintain a positive and professional relationship with USI CDFI customers and partners by both initiating and responding promptly to any and all requests in a responsive, consistent, and accurate manner.
- Loan System and Pipeline Management: The Analyst will manage and input prospective new transactions into the database and assist the CDFI team with reporting and managing the application pipeline. The Analyst will also provide application, loan, and impact reporting through the software solution.
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this position will have these key qualifications:
- Education background should include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study such as real estate, urban planning, business administration or finance, and at least an introduction to accounting.
- Experience in small business relations.
- Experience in packaging loans from application to closing.
- At least two years of experience in finance, business lending and/or real estate-based lending, including borrower contact, credit analysis, due diligence and loan documentation.
- Proficiency in analyzing financial statements of individuals, for-profit businesses, and nonprofit organizations and their real estate operations. Familiarity with basic accounting principles including the ability to translate cash to accrual accounting and vice versa and ability to spread and analyze such statements to assess financial condition.
- Experience in utilizing tools that bring an equity and liberation lens to financing.
- Working experience with both private sector financial institutions and public agencies.
- Basic familiarity with business law concepts including contracts, loan collateral, creditors’ rights and forms of business organization and sufficient knowledge to review and negotiate loan documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Programs, and other database software
- Excellent skills in managing tasks requiring strong attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and with initiative, combined with skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve shared goals.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $75,000 (with benefits)
