Background

The mission of the Chicago Community Loan Fund is to provide flexible, affordable and responsible financing and technical assistance for community stabilization and development efforts and initiatives that benefit low- to moderate-income neighborhoods, families and individuals throughout metropolitan Chicago.

Summary

Chicago Community Loan Fund’s (CCLF’s) Senior Accountant will provide advanced accounting support and assist with daily finance, accounting, and office operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all subsidiary accounting, including intercompany transactions and consolidation for subsidiaries and providing subsidiary financial statements and assisting with consolidated reporting.
  • Review reconciliations, journal entries, and schedules prepared by staff accountants, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Review and approve Accounts Payable, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
  • Ownership of program accounting, including tracking and reporting program-related revenues and expenses.
  • Works across department lines to ensure program grants are recorded and drawn down in accordance with grant agreement and budget guidelines.
  • Performs journal entries and account reconciliations for complex accounting transactions, such as loan loss reserves estimates.
  • Assist CFO and/or Director of Accounting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and schedules.
  • Research new company changes or ventures and how they will be impacted by GAAP.
  • Gathers necessary account information and documents needed to perform annual audits, and assists external auditors.
  • Maintains knowledge of generally acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Strong knowledge of general ledger. Knowledge of Abila MIP system is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls, preferably with consolidations and program accounting experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • High level of experience with Excel and Word applications
  • Outstanding punctuality and attendance.

Minimum educational requirement: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA preferred. Four or more years of related experience, preferably with non-profit and/or consolidations experience.

Residency Requirement: To be considered and remain eligible for employment with CCLF, the individual must be an established Illinois resident at or by the time the individual commences employment and remain a permanent Illinois resident throughout the individual’s employment with CCLF.

Compensation and Benefits

Exempt Annual Salary Range: $66,147 – $82,684; Medical/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance/STD/LTD; 40 hours Paid Leave/96 hours Paid Sick Leave/104 hours Vacation; 8 hours Birthday Pay/10 Holidays/6 Mental Health Days.
