On September 30, the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) awarded $8.8 million in Technical Assistance (TA) Awards to 56 organizations. Eight of those receiving awards are OFN members. TA Awards enable CDFIs to enhance their capacity to provide essential financial services to low-income, rural, urban, and Native communities across the country.
The awards were made with Fiscal Year 2024 dollars that were set to expire at midnight. They were also the first awards to be announced by the Fund in 2025 after months of delay in the release of appropriated dollars by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). These awards show movement by OMB and Treasury toward getting funds out to communities that need them most.
The announcement also stated Treasury’s intent to award additional CDFI Program TA Awards and Financial Assistance Awards later this winter, although no further specifics on an expected timeline were included. As a result of the ongoing government shutdown shortly after the award announcement, possible delays are expected around disbursement of this round, as well as potential further delay of future award round announcements.
OFN congratulates all recipients in this breakthrough round of funding, especially the following OFN members.
