Senator Tammy Baldwin Visits Small Businesses at New CDFI Facility in Milwaukee

On March 16, Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin met with small business owners and employees at Sherman Phoenix, a new entrepreneurial hub opened in December 2018 in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood.

Inspired by Sherman Park residents’ efforts to rebuild and heal their community after unrest stemming from the 2016 police shooting of Sylville Smith, Baldwin successfully advocated for $750,000 of federal funding last year to support the project.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Community Services (OCS) awarded the grant to OFN member Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) to transform the formerly vacant building into a high-quality commercial space for 29 small entrepreneurs offering products and services ranging from prepared foods to art and cultural activities.
