Summary

The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for handling routine accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  •  Manages flow of incoming payments, ensuring accuracy and proper recording into the accounting system in accordance with revenue recognition policies;
  • Works closely with the Philanthropy Team to analyze donor agreements and grant contracts to determine proper revenue classification, with a primary focus on accurately tracking restricted and unrestricted funds;
  • Accurately records invoice information, ensuring it is consistent with company policies and procedures, and maintains detailed financial records;
  • Assists with monitoring expenses against annual budgets;
  • Maintains internal and State reporting for stale checks;
  • In coordination with the Philanthropy Team, assists in providing excellent customer service to investors related to payments, tax forms and other financial matters;
  • Processes all investor principal and interest payments;
  • Coordinates all finance-related functions pertaining to investments, equity equivalent investments, and other notes payable;
  • Maintains balance sheet schedules and performs monthly reconciliations to ensure balances match with the general ledger;
  • Assists with the preparation and distribution of annual IRS forms 1098 and 1099;
  • Assists with the annual financial audit and prepares assigned audit schedules;
  • Performs monthly close activities including preparation and entry of assigned monthly journal entries;
  • Cross-trains with other Finance Team members to provide back-up as needed; and
  • Assumes special projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Three years of accounting experience or equivalent, nonprofit experience is a plus.

  •  Strong attention to detail and deadlines; organized and systematic;
  • Demonstrated technology skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven collaboration skills;
  • Excellent analytical skills with an eye toward creating efficiencies and continuous quality improvements;

  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities; and
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to answer telephones and use standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.);
  • Ability to read, write, and understand and speak English clearly;
  • Ability to use a computer for Community Loan Fund business;
  • Ability to travel as necessary and work some evenings and weekends; and
  • Ability to lift at least five pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary of $65,000

The Community Loan Fund’s current benefit package includes medical and dental coverage, group life and disability options, health, and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts and our 401(k) Plan upon completion of each plan’s eligibility requirements. These benefits are subject to modification at any time by the Community Loan Fund and will be reviewed with you in detail on your first day of employment.  We also offer vacation, sick time, 11 Federal Holidays and 4 Floating Holidays.
