Vital Healthcare Capital (V-Cap) is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) dedicated to strengthening quality healthcare in low-income and historically disadvantaged communities. We finance community health centers and behavioral health organizations; advocate for community-based healthcare, health equity and good healthcare jobs; and build partnerships to advance our work. We currently work in New York, Colorado, and North Carolina. Our unique partnership with Self Help—one of the largest CDFI’s in the country—gives us access to scalable capital and a national commercial lending infrastructure, while remaining a small and nimble organization.

This is a NYC based position, supporting V-Cap’s work across all V-Cap markets.


  • Provide staff support to V-Cap’s CEO across V-Cap’s lending, program planning, and organizational development activities.
  • Support outreach and communication with new and existing relationships in the community healthcare sector across V-Cap’s markets, including drafting key messages and content; tracking distribution and responses through communications platforms; updating website and social media content; and implementing follow-up communications with V-Cap community partners and stakeholders.
  • Provide background research, writing, visualizations, and presentation development in support of V-Cap’s initiatives, including for draft reports, grant proposals and related documents, with the highest quality standards for presentation-ready work, targeted to healthcare community and funder stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage project plans and schedules for time-bound activities—including reporting, grant applications, and other funding vehicles—ensuring V-Cap team members are informed and on track and submissions are on time and complete.
  • Support planning and preparation for Board meetings, conferences, and other key organizational events.
  • Share organizational and administrative responsibilities as needed in collaboration with other team members.

  • Polished, respectful communicator, verbally, in writing and presentations, and in most up-to-date digital/multimedia formats.
  • Strong ability to research and synthesize diverse sources of information, including financial reports, narrative documents, quantitative information, and public policy to integrate in work product.
  • Adept at current business software platforms, including MS Office suite (Excel/Word/PowerPoint), G Suite products, social media platforms, Squarespace, database/CRM applications, and data visualization platforms (such as Tableau).
  • Able to thrive in the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, quickly grasp new information, acquire knowledge and contribute to finding creative, financially-sound solutions.


  • Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated depth of interest in related health and social impact fields.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a related field or organization, such as a community development organization, health policy setting, community healthcare provider, workforce development organization, foundation, advocacy organization, or social impact finance organization.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and economic and racial equity, and to investing in care for our most vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to learn, build depth and gain a comfort level in discussing healthcare policy issues facing low-income communities, including Medicaid funding streams, healthcare workforce development, and behavioral health and community health services.
