Background

We were founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1994, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that increases access to business credit, makes loans, and provides support to enable underserved and under-represented entrepreneurs to realize their dreams and be catalysts for positive economic and social change.

We are certified by the U.S. Department of Treasury as a Community Development Financial
Institution (CDFI).

DreamSpring is one of six high-impact organizations selected by the Aspen Institute’s Business Ownership Initiative for participation in the Microenterprise Impact Collaborative,

Summary

Under direct supervision of the Head of Stakeholder Engagement, designs, develops and implements DreamSpring’s cultivation strategy with individual donors and prospective donors, as well as institutional giving strategies with DreamSpring’s foundation, government and corporate partners.

Manages and cultivates relationships with existing donors, donor prospects, and organizational funders/prospects. Demonstrates a compelling ability to connect with and inspire donors while clearly communicating DreamSpring’s mission, focus, and needs for future growth. Energizes team members, engages prospects and perseveres through all stages of the donor journey, from identification to cultivation to continuing engagement for year-over-year giving to DreamSpring .

Works effectively with key stakeholders and volunteers and creates strategies for others to engage in the cultivation of prospects. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Responsibilities

  • Develops effective strategies and systems for raising significant and transformative gifts from individuals and institutions.
  • Helps donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a deep and long-lasting relationship with DreamSpring.
  • Carries out consistently excellent donor-centered cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with the goal of ensuring donor delight.
  • Carries a portfolio of donors and prospects throughout DreamSpring’s growing footprint.
  • Meets or exceeds assigned fundraising metrics, including philanthropic revenue targets, team targets, data/information targets, and activity targets.
  • Leads donor prospecting, engagement, and moves management to support transformational gifts.
  • Supports development of and writes proposals, requests, and support materials to move donors (individual and institutional) along the donor journey.
  • Serves as an enthusiastic, positive, and responsive representative of the Philanthropy team throughout the organization.
  • Partners with other departments to plan and design strategic cultivation and stewardship activities and gift proposals.
  • Works closely with the Head of Stakeholder Engagement in providing the President/CEO and Board members with fundraising support and coaching for their identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors, always treating donors with the utmost in courtesy and respect.
  • Ensures all donors receive appropriate and prompt acknowledgement and updates on the impact of their philanthropic contributions.
  • Accurately and with attention to detail, records all activities into DreamSpring’s donor database of records to track and cultivate donors and prospects.
  • Manages existing portfolio of donors and prospects with an eye toward moving them up into higher giving categories and soliciting transformational institutional gifts.
  • Creates and implements written moves management strategies plans for each donor in assigned portfolio.
  • Supports solicitation strategies including site visits, cultivation events, donor gatherings, convenings, and partner connection opportunities.
  • Makes direct, face-to-face solicitations and as requested, assists the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g., provides portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
  • Ensures acknowledgement of donors through public and private recognition.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Requirements

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Major Gifts and individual donations secured, prospect conversion rate, percentage of new vs. existing donors, and major donors retained.
  • Corporate and foundation dollars secured, prospect conversion rate, percent new donors, and percent donors retained.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) or small business and entrepreneurship nonprofits.
  • Three years of experience in fundraising, CRA, or community relations work.
  • Working knowledge of Community Reinvestment Act, alternative finance landscape, corporate philanthropy, and community development.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and eagerness to connect people to DreamSpring’s mission.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
  • Ability to demonstrate passion and initiative around the work of DreamSpring.

  • Knowledge of budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.
  • Knowledge of records management and basic accounting procedures.

  • Knowledge of navigating working in a virtual or hybrid work environment.

  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

  • $80,000.00 per year
