Background

The Business Consortium Fund “BCF” seeks a Senior Accountant to play an integral role in company’s infrastructure and accounting operational efficiency, financial health, and mission. The BCF is a national a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and our core mission is to empower entrepreneurs in underserved communities by providing access to capital, technical assistance, job creation and to build sustainable businesses and communities.

Summary

The Senior Accountant is part of BCF’s small but growing team, which calls for innovation, collaboration, and foresight. The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for managing payments and processing, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining financial covenant compliance. This role supports the organization’s daily operations and strategic financial goals, contributing to BCF’s mission of empowering entrepreneurs.  The role calls for strong attention to detail as well as steadfast organizational and communication skills.

The position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

The position will work remotely as well as in its New York based office. Some travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to manage BCF Financial Management and Reporting:
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (covenants reporting and status reports).
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Manage all aspects of accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll
  • Monitor and reconcile bank reconciliations, credit balance sheet and general ledger accounts, ensuring integrity and accuracy.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, ensuring timely processing of payments and invoices
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  • Prepare detailed financial analysis and reports to CAO for presentation to stakeholders.
  • Support the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
  • Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
    • Support the annual audit process.
    • Review President, CAO and staff’s expense report for accuracy, completeness, and approval.
    • Gather financial data to assist President and CAO grant writing applications.
  • Financial Covenant Management
    • Monitor and report on financial covenant compliance for loan agreements and funding sources.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to covenant requirements.
    • Prepare periodic compliance reports for lenders and other financial partners.
  • Process Improvements:
    • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
    • Support the implementation and optimization of financial systems and tools.
    • Work with and provide recommendation to CAO to increase efficiency of internal and external infrastructure.
    • Identify and assist with other special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
  • Experience working in a non-profit, financial services, or CDFI environment is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (SAGE ERP) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and leverage knowledge and resources to solve problems.
  • Strong attention to details, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and coordinate a range of concurrent tasks.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams and graphic software; Salesforce experience a plus
