Responsibilities

The primary functions of this job are:

  • Help startup and expanding cooperative businesses gain access to needed capital.
  • Grow Shared Capital’s loan portfolio while minimizing its risk.
  • Keep customer satisfaction and retention levels high.
  • Contribute to our good reputation among lenders, CDFIs, and within the co-op ecosystem.

You’ll be working with an excellent and supportive lending team, and collaborating with fellow employees, volunteer committee members, community partners, and our board of directors. We encourage and provide professional development. You may be expected to travel occasionally.

Considerable time is spent attending to the capital needs of an extremely diverse universe of borrowers, not all of whom speak English as their first language. You’ll also get plenty of alone time with spreadsheets and with data that lives in TEA loan management software.

 

 

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced education in a finance, business, management, public policy, or banking discipline is valued.
  • Three years of experience in small business or commercial lending, especially with a CDFI or similar; and/or three years of experience in cooperative or small business operations and management.
  • Experience with a CDFI loan fund is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Or a combination of equivalent relevant experience, education, and training.

  • Strong financial aptitude and financial analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and build respectful relationships with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cooperative business models.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly.
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use computer and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work; advanced skill in Microsoft suite of products is essential; experience with lending and investing software is important; experience with TEA is ideal.

Compensation and Benefits

The yearly salary range for this position is $65,000-$85,000, depending on your experience and qualifications. We have an office in St. Paul, Minnesota, but remote applicants will also be considered.
