Background

CapShift aims to make it easier for families to build impact investment portfolios through their trusted advisors and financial institutions. Since its founding, CapShift has mobilized capital into dozens of high impact funds and enterprises providing solutions to global issues such as climate, health, racial justice, and income inequality. 

CapShift’s impact investing platform combines software, research, and advisory capabilities and covers over 1,000 leading impact investment funds and enterprises across public, private, and nonprofit investment and recoverable grant segments. 

CapShift is targeting the $1 trillion charitable investment market, and currently works with many leading donor advised fund providers including Vanguard Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, and Chicago Community Trust. Our suite of solutions makes it easy to source, diligence, deploy, monitor, and implement impact portfolios. Clients include foundations, financial and philanthropic advisors, corporations, and family offices. 

CapShift was founded by MissionPoint Partners, Jacques Perold, and Heron Foundation. Other investors include leading impact investing families, and include Jesse Fink, Spring Point Partners, Gratitude Railroad, Brazen Impact, and Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment.  

Summary

Are you passionate about the intersection of storytelling, impact measurement, and finance?   

We are seeking a summer fellow who will play a critical role in helping mission-driven organizations communicate their work and impact to donors and investors through storytelling and data. Over the course of the fellowship, you will gain both an in-depth understanding of the social impact landscape — from community development finance institutions to catalytic climate funds — as well as knowledge on specific social/environmental impact models and outcomes.

Responsibilities

    • Revamp CapShift’s product profiles on mission-driven organizations through background research, strategic writing, and communication with key leaders at social impact funds on CapShift’s platform 

 

    • Acquire a deep understanding of the breadth of impact opportunities, and effectively convey this information through storytelling 

 

    • Evaluate and analyze social & environmental impact data, including year-over-year analysis and distillation at the organization or portfolio level 

 

    • Draft client-facing reports on the annual impact performance of opportunities 

 

    • Coordinate with a segment of mission-driven organizations on product updates and key collateral, such as offering documents and visual assets 

 

    • Potential support on strategic projects related to impact reporting needs of CapShift’s client base  

 

    • Take ownership of projects and see them through from start to finish over course of the internship, including individual work and work of summer undergraduate interns 

 

Requirements

    • Master’s degree (or degree in progress) in economics, journalism, finance, business, or equivalent 

 

    • Interest in impact investing, social enterprises, social impact, and storytelling 

 

    • Strong writing, interviewing, and editing skills 

 

    • Excellent communication, presentation, creative, and problem-solving skills

 

    • Ability to learn quickly, eagerness to take ownership of projects, and support a team of interns to execute multi stakeholder projects accurately and efficiently (prior leadership roles or experience managing teammates a plus) 

 

    • Fit with high-growth, startup environment: ability to be a team player, juggle multiple priorities, and learn and adapt quickly 

 

Compensation and Benefits

The weekly rate for this position is $960 ($24 an hour, no overtime).
