Another Source’s client, San Diego College of Continuing Education Foundation (SDCCE Foundation), is recruiting for a Financial Manager to join their team in San Diego, CA. 

Internally this will be titled Fiscal Director.

The San Diego College of Continuing Education Foundation (SDCCE Foundation) is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the advancement of education for San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE). SDCCE functions as an integral part of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) as the tuition-free, noncredit, adult education and career technical education institution of SDCCD. The SDCCE Foundation officially functions as an auxiliary organization for SDCCE as defined by State of California Education Code.

San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD). As the largest provider of noncredit education in California, SDCCE’s mission is to provide accessible, equitable, and innovative quality education and career training to adult students. SDCCE has offered free career training and classes continuously for more than 100 years. 

The starting annual base salary for this position is $92,499. 

Summary

About the role: 

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the San Diego College of Continuing Education Foundation (SDCCEF), the Fiscal Manager will plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise a function or section of accounting or finance, assuring and facilitating the quality and timely processing of assigned accounting operations and report preparation required for internal use and outside agencies. 

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:  

    • Plan, organize, and supervise accounting, budgeting and/or other fiscal operations for maximum effectiveness and productivity; coordinate assignments with staff and establish schedules to meet deadlines for accounting or budget requirements.  

 

    • Develop, implement, and disseminate new or revised procedures to resolve pending financial problems and issues concerning assigned section; assure the preparation of regular and special fiscal reports and review for accuracy and compliance; conduct special studies and prepare a variety of detailed and complex reports of an analytical and informational nature.  

 

    • Develop and implement controls for fiscal accountability review for accuracy and compliance; assist in the development of new financial procedures.  

 

    • Analyze, prepare, and review data for financial statements and reports; prepare, analyze, and monitor required reports; analyze monthly general ledger, operational, or enrollment financial reports; review adjustments, make recommendations, approve proposed changes specific to the area of responsibility to maintain integrity of district financial data; perform technical accounting functions to close books at the District’s fiscal year end.  

 

    • Assure the compilation of data for audits within assigned accounting or finance section; coordinate audit within assigned accounting functions and respond to year-end audit findings, comments, and recommendations.  

 

    • Develop or assist in the development and finalization of the Foundation budget; compile projects for tentative and final budgets; provide grant proposal budget analysis and technical and analytical support. 

 

    • Utilize technology resources effectively to automate routine processes and procedures, improve efficiency of operations, and maintain currency with operational standards; evaluate and recommend changes in technology resources to improve operations; collaborate proactively with I.T / Technical staff to make programming changes necessary to meet regulatory requirements, and ensure use of technology resources results in equitable services and outcomes for diverse communities.    

 

    • Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, and ethnic communities.   

Requirements

Required qualifications: 

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:  

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting, finance, public administration, business- or business-related field  

 

    • 5 years of increasingly responsible, professional-level work experience, including two years of supervisory experience

    • Accounting, auditing and internal control principles, practices, and procedures.  

 

    • Basic research methods, business letter writing and report writing techniques, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  

 

    • Budget preparation and control.  

 

    • Effective communication methods, techniques, and modes with diverse stakeholders.  

 

    • Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and policies governing accounts receivables, accounts payable, cashiering, general ledger accounting, reporting, and auditing the use of public funds.  

 

    • Generally accepted accounting principles.  

 

    • Managerial principles and practices.  

 

    • Preparation of comprehensive accounting reports.  

 

    • Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training.  

 

    • Must have demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
