High Impact is a leading consulting firm serving the CDFI industry. In 2024 we are celebrating our 10-year anniversary as a firm and over that time we have been privileged to serve both many of the largest CDFIs in the country as well as many smaller, emerging funds in need of external support to more fully realize their mission. We provide underwriting, portfolio management, and data analytics services with a team of 10 full-time staff. Summary

As the leader of our Portfolio Management & Analytics line of business, the Director will lead a team that serves clients through the post-closing management of loans and investments and the utilization of data to support clients’ internal and external needs. Our portfolio management work includes (a) hands-on management of small portfolios (30 loans or less) for lenders and investors primarily providing loans for housing development or to small businesses, as well as (b) data-first management of larger portfolios with a focus on portfolio reporting using data. High Impact offers a standalone product, High Impact Portfolio Analytics, to bring together data into a user-friendly dashboard presentation in Microsoft Power BI for impact lenders whose organizational data is otherwise scattered across multiple software systems and databases. High Impact seeks to expand its impact on the impact lending and investing sector by introducing other innovations related to data accessibility and usage in the future under the leadership of the Director of Portfolio Management & Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management
    • Supports staff as they review loan and investment documents to identify risks and reporting and monitoring requirements.
    • Oversees the collection and analysis of periodic reporting from borrowers/investees.
    • Prepares or reviews portfolio-level reports and provides analysis and recommendations to clients based on portfolio performance.
    • Provides recommendations for resolving problems and mitigating risks.
  • Portfolio and Data Analytics
    • Reviews and provides guidance on the development of data models using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power BI, or similar tools.
    • Directs error testing. Seeks opportunities to optimize user experience and oversees implementation.
    • Uses data sets to draw valuable insights to serve individual clients and/or the impact lending industry broadly.
    • Directs research and development of new data-related products or improvements to existing products and services.
  • Client Relationship Cultivation
    • Assists with gaining new clients by following up on leads, conducting client pitch meetings, and contributing to marketing efforts as assigned.
    • Oversees service delivery and troubleshooting for current clients.
    • Designs, manages, and improves workflows and processes for existing and new clients, including recurring and as-needed work, and oversees the same.
  • Management
    • Serves on the Strategic Management Committee with other Directors and the President to set and implement company-wide priorities and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm.
    • Manages a team of 3-6 staff, potentially including entry-level analysts as well as more senior data and portfolio managers, to support their growth, achieve departmental goals, and deliver excellent service to clients.
    • Provides ongoing feedback to staff through semi-annual reviews, monthly one-on-one meetings, mentoring of one staff member in a different line of business, and training sessions.

Requirements

  • 8 or more years of experience in lending or portfolio management of rental housing loans, small business loans, other commercial loans, investments in the same, or ‘fund of fund’ investments, preferably within the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) industry or within impact finance organizations.
  • Previous experience managing staff strongly preferred. Other qualifications must be met or exceeded if candidate has no previous experience managing staff.
  • Experience working with data proactively and within systems such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Power BI, and/or Tableau.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a combination of education, relevant experience, and formal training.
    • For example: An acceptable combination of education and experience without a Bachelor’s degree may include (a) an Associate degree with 10 or more years of experience in lending and portfolio management, including substantial experience in lending and portfolio management relevant to High Impact’s client base, (b) no college degree with 15 or more years of experience in lending and portfolio management, including substantial experience in lending and portfolio management relevant to High Impact’s client base.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review clear, accurate and well-organized analyses that effectively communicate the story behind the data and identify risks and mitigants based on analysis and experience.
  • Familiarity with typical loan and investment documents and transaction structures.
  • Previous experience with risk identification and ability to balance community and programmatic needs with due diligence and sound credit judgement.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Project management capabilities including project design and performance management.
  • Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Excel, preferably including familiarity with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA); experience using Microsoft Word; and experience with Microsoft Power BI or Tableau preferred.
  • Familiarity with Structured Query Language (SQL) or other data-analytics programming languages preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation package includes a salary of $100,000 – $120,000 plus full benefits including 401(k) with a 5% match; paid time off (“PTO”) and holidays; profit share; and health, dental, and vision insurance plans with a company contribution. In addition to standard PTO and holidays, under our First Fridays Off policy each first Friday of the month is a company holiday.
